FAQ
-
How much ground clearance will I
lose with the Rocker Pod cargo steps?
The bottom of the Rocker Pod cargo
steps will be about 1 ½ - 3 inches lower than a typical set
of 3” diameter Nerf bars. For example a 2006 GM/Chevy pickup
will lose about 2” of clearance compared to the factory Nerf
bars

My truck is NOT a 4x4 will I still be
able to use the Rocker Pod cargo steps?
The Rocker Pods will fit all truck
2WD or 4X4. The ground clearance on a 2WD truck will be
affected in the same way as a 4X4, that said if your truck
is a street truck only, there will be no ground clearance
problems.

I live in an area that gets significant
snow fall, as a result the roads department uses salt and
chemical de-icer on the roads daily. Will the Rocker Pods
handle this type of environment.?
Yes the Rocker Pods are just as
durable as your vehicle in this environment. Some
preventative action should be taken with the Rocker Pods as
with your vehicle in this environment. Once or twice a year
use a good quality automotive wax on smooth gloss painted
Rocker Pods (NO WAX IS REQUIRED ON FLAT SANDTEX PAINTED
PODS). The polished aluminum diamond plate should be
maintained as you would aluminum wheels (Wax and Polish at
the beginning of spring and end of Fall). During
the winter months rinse the salt from your truck and Rocker
Pods at least once every two weeks preferably once a week.
Avoid the use of soap during winter, as it will remove the
protective wax faster. Use a good quality lock de-icer on
the locks and don't forget to cycle the locks regularly
during the winter (insert key and rotate a few times). This
is all preventive maintenance that will ensure your Rocker
Pods look great and function properly.
I am an avid off road enthusiast
will these Rocker Pods offer the same protection as Rock
Slider or Rock Guards?
Offroading is a subjective
description depending on your perspective, I can appreciate
that many people use their vehicles in many different
environments and many different situations. The simple
answer is NO the Rocker Pods are not designed to replace
Rock Sliders or Rock Guards. They are designed to go on
vehicles that travel on municipal roads and or dirt roads
and occasionally go on “light to medium” trails. Definitely
NOT for rock crawling. If you live in an area that requires
you to travel on gravel or dirt roads on a daily basis. We
would strongly recommend that you have the underside of the
Rocker Pods Linex and or Rhino coated. We can Linex coat the
Rocker Pods at a minimal charge before they are shipped to
you, or you can have them coated at any Linex or Rhino shop
locally. If you use your vehicle for off road on a
regular basis, we would recommend the installation of a skid
plate. We offer a ¼ Linex coated skid plate that can be
installed or purchased at any time.
You mention that the Rocker Pods have
weather seals on all doors. Does this mean I can have them
submerged for short periods of time?
Honestly I can say that the Rocker
Pods are very impervious to water during normal driving
conditions (rain, snow, car wash etc.) However they are NOT
100% air tight, this is done for a reason. As you can
imagine on a hot day the air humidity may be very high, and
at night the temperature drops, water will condense inside
the Pods and make for a very damp environment if they were
AIR TIGHT. This is also true of your vehicle itself. We
actually would recommend that if your Rocker Pods are very
full of supplies, the inclusion of moisture absorbing
pouches is beneficial.
How much weight can I expect the Rocker
Pods to carry including a person standing on them?
Depending on the number of mounting
brackets used, the typical load will be 375 Lbs each. We
have tested the pods to over 500 Lbs each on frame mounted
applications such as the Hummer H3 with 2 frame mounted
brackets

I have a dually pickup. Can I order the
pods to go from the front wheel well to the rear wheel
well?
The main reason we do NOT make the
Rocker Pods go from wheel well to wheel well is that the
twisting forces on the cab and bed of the truck are not
equal. Basically depending on the loading of your bed, it
will flex significantly from the cab. This is true for both
dually trucks and regular rear axle trucks.

You mention
that the Rocker Pods mount to the body mounts of the
vehicle. Can you explain what this means?
OK we weren't totally accurate in
this description. The GM/Chevy line of pickups use body
mount locations to secure Rocker Pods. This is the area
where the vehicle body attaches to the frame. This was the
first application to be fitted, and the term stayed. The
Ford trucks use the existing body mounts located along the
inside of the rocker panel (much different from the GM/Chevy
“body mounts) Since the introduction of the Rocker Pods we
have fitted them to many non pickup vehicles, for example
the Nissan Extera uses frame mounted bracket as does the
Hummer.
Do you have any dealers in my area and
how can I purchase them?
We are also looking for new dealers,
if you have a dealer in your area let them know you are
interested and have them contact us. In the interim you can
order directly from Ultimate Truck Gear through our contact
us page. We will reply to your enquiry usually the same or
next day.

Where are the Rocker Pods
manufactured?
We are proud to say that the Rocker
Pods are 100% manufactured in North America…..
The aluminum is extruded in the USA
and the Machining and Assembly is done in our aerospace
manufacturing facility in Canada

I am currently stationed
overseas. Do you offer any discount for service men and
women?
ABSOLUTLY if you are an active
member or veteran of the US or Canadian Armed Forces or
Fire, Police or EMS personnel.
Installation
Installing a new set of ROCKER POD's
is as easy as 1,2,3,.......4&5
1. Out with the old!
Park the vehicle on a
level surface (makes it easier to jack the Rocker Pods
up straight). Using tire ramps are not advised. Remove
any existing steps, bars or other side apparatuses being
replaced by the Rocker Pods.
2. Mounting, mounting brackets.
Depending on your
vehicle, you might have several options on mounting to
your vehicle. Please use supplied instructions for
these.
Generally, you'll remove
the body mount screws and reinstall with the appropriate
brackets. Some mounting options will include mounted
brackets that go on your frame (no drilling required).
If using the provided mud flaps, install these first.
3. Time for a buddy to come over....Using
a floor jack or wooden blocks, place the Rocker Pod on
the jack and raise to the highest position that will
allow the vehicle door to open with about 3/8"-1/2" of
clearance between the bottom of the door and the top of
the Rocker Pod. Check that the Pods are as even as
possible with the rocker panel (note: if your vehicle
doesn't have a regular body line across the bottom, you
can also use the door trim as a gage to level out the
Rocker Pod).
Have someone hold the
Pod in position, using a transfer punch mark the center
of the slots from your mounting brackets onto the Rocker
Pod. If there is not enough space for a transfer punch
use a marker and CAREFULLY mark the outline of the
brackets and slots and holes onto the rear of the Pod.
Take your time as this is the most important part of the
installation (check your wheel clearance by turning your
wheels, and remember to add your space if you'll be
using your supplied Rocker Pod mud flaps). Once all the
bracket positions have been marked, take down the Rocker
Pod and drill the center of the slotted holes ONLY.
4. Does that look right?
Adjust the height and
level. You can now tighten the brackets to the frame
using the body mount screws. Once satisfied with the
position of the Rocker Pod, you can lock them in place,
if you like, by drilling through the standard hole
provided in the bracket. This is not necessary as it
will prevent any future adjustments of the Rocker Pod,
however, it will allow you to remove the PODs and
reinstall them in the exact location every time.

5. Rinse, Lather, Repeat!
Repeat steps 1-4 for the other side of the vehicle

6. Test Drive
Immediately drive your truck around with your buddy for
a minimum of 1 hour. There is no real reason for this,
but you have no idea how rewarding it is to see peoples'
reactions while there's still dirt on your hands.
